Bird Weekend May 9-11, 2008
Join area naturalists, biologists and birding enthusiasts to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day, May 10th with a weekend of events. All of these unique events are for both new birders and long time birding fans. We have an entire weekend dedicated to our avian friends combined with great hiking through the most scenic part of Ohio. Hocking Hills State Park, Conkle’s Hollow - Meet the naturalist in the
Conkle’s Hollow parking area to discover, look at and listen for these

AM – Warblers & Wildflowers at Wahkeena Nature Preserve – Meet with
preserve manager Tom Shisler to discover the unique diversity of
Wahkeena. Admission: $3 per person, OHS members free and for more
information call 1-800-297-1883. 8:00 AM Bird Hike at
Rutherford Wetland - Join with Wayne National Forest biologist, Lynda
Andrews, in viewing birds at the newest addition to the Hocking Valley
Birding Trail. The hike will traverse the accessible Ora E. Anderson
Nature trail. Rutherford wetland is a 20-acre wetland that supports a
diversity of avian fauna. The wetland is located on St. Rt. 278 about

The Hocking Hills Region is located in the Midwest US
settled into the edges of Appalachia's Southeastern Ohio.
It is known for its wilderness areas, unique rock formations, cascading
waterfalls, breathtaking cliff edges and the many cabins and cottages
tucked into its hillsides to escape the everyday. It encompasses such natural areas as Lake Hope State Park, Wayne
National Forest, Zaleski State Forest, Hocking State Forest and a few
Columbus Metroparks. One of the largest visited park systems in Ohio is Hocking Hills State Park
located within this region. There are over 25 miles of hiking trails
including those at Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls and Ash Cave.

Float Down the Hocking River - Join the Hocking Hills Canoe Livery and
the Clearcreek metropark naturalist for a float down the Hocking River.

requires a minimum number of participants…so please call ahead.
