If you've got a sweet tooth, then the Hocking Hills
State Park Maple Syrup Festival is where you'll want to be in March.
Hocking Hills State Park Naturalist, Pat
Quackenbush, and Hocking College students will be leading trail
hikes through the Hocking Hills State Park sugarbush.
Don't expect to be bored with a bunch of
scientific explanations about how syrup is made. Instead, there are
costumed interpreters and hands-on activities along the way. Watch
sap being boiled and talk to some early settlers and Native
Americans about how they process the sweet stuff. You'll even get to
sample some of the good ol' fashioned Ohio maple syrup fresh from
the trees.
And for those who have a real hankering for
maple syrup, there is a pancake breakfast at the Hocking Hills State
Park lodge the days of the festival. And believe it or not, they
even serve local syrup on those pancakes!
Come and
enjoy a sweet taste of spring and learn just what it takes to
bring the
sap from the tree to your breakfast table.
